The Iowa County SWCD will hold its monthly meeting on Oct. 18 at the USDA building, 435 N. Highland St., Williamsburg, at 8 a.m. Please call ahead if special accommodations are needed, (319) 668-2359 ext. 300.

The Iowa County SWCD is conducting their monthly meetings on the same schedule via conference calls for the time being. The meetings are still open to the public. If interested in attending they can email debra.conrad@ia.nacdnet.net for the conference call information.

During the 2022-2023 school year, the Iowa Valley Community School District will have a 1 p.m. dismissal every other Friday in order to allow more time for teacher collaboration and professional learning.

Early dismissal this month is Oct. 21. (The Oct. 7 early dismissal was canceled.) Please see the district calendar for a full list of the scheduled 1 p.m. dismissals. It can be found on the school’s website at http://www.iowa-valley.k12.ia.us

The Amana Library will host an ImpactLife Blood Drive on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Amana Elementary Cafeteria, 3023 220th Trail, Middle Amana.

As a special thank you, all donors will receive a gift card or a blood type mug. Potential donors must be at least 17, weigh more than 110 pounds, and possess a photo ID to donate. Please eat and hydrate before donating. Appointments and masks are required. Walk-ins will not be accepted to allow for proper distancing. Whole blood and double red cell will be available to donate. Marengo Community Development will host the 10th annual fall festival Saturday, Oct. 22, in downtown Marengo. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Walking tacos and hot dogs will be served for a freewill donation.

11 a.m.: Kids’ games and pumpkin craft

11:30 a.m.: Leanne’ School of Dance performance

1 — 2 p.m.: Trunk or treat

2 — 4:30 p.m.: Riverbottom Ramblers (weather permitting).

The recently formed River Valley District for the Arts will hold its kickoff event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the Marengo fall festival Oct. 22 as part of the Iowa County Shop Hop. Shoppers are invited to the east side of the town square to find one-of-a-kind art pieces from multiple artists.

The Iowa County Shop Hop will be held the weekend of Oct. 22-23, featuring the small businesses that call Iowa County home. Iowa County businesses will welcome visitors with special pop-ups, food trucks, unique vendors, sales, or events. Plus, one-weekend-only vendor shows will be set up along the way.

A 5K fun run Oct. 22 in Marengo will honor the memory of Iowa Valley student Sam Maas, who died June 27, 2022. The event welcomes people of all ages and fitness levels with proceeds going toward a scholarship to be awarded to a senior in the graduating class of 2023 in Sam’s honor.

The event will start and end at Iowa Valley High School. Race day registration will begin at 7 a.m. in the high school gymnasium. The race will begin at 8 a.m. It will be timed, but no awards or results will be posted.

The annual Trick of Treat with the Tigers will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Iowa Valley Junior/Senior High School. A highlight of this event is the massive amounts of candy and sweet treats that are passed out to hundreds of children. Any business, organization or individual who would like to donate candy, or money to purchase candy, can drop off their donation at the high school office or contact Mrs. Behrens to arrange pickup.

Swaddling Clothes will be held the first Saturday of each month, from 9 a.m. to noon, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 780 Court Ave., Marengo, offering baby, children’s and maternity items. For more information, call (319) 642-5452 or visit swaddlingclothes.org

Wednesday, Oct. 19: Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, winter blend veggies, Jell-O, cookie, dinner roll.

Thursday, Oct. 20: Chicken primavera, green beans, dessert, Mandarin oranges/pineapple, garlic toast.

Friday, Oct. 21: Chili w/beans, spinach cranberry salad, French dressing, strawberry banana medley, dessert, cornbread.
